Job Description: The Department of Emergency Services is seeking applicants for an eligibility list for Dispatcher. Excellent opportunity for a certified and experienced Dispatcher. Receive and process emergency 911 calls and use the computer aided dispatch system to dispatch appropriate public safety resources quickly and efficiently; provide emergency medical dispatch instructions when necessary; receive and process non-emergency calls for a variety of public safety agencies/services. Position requires multi-tasking ability, basic computer skills, basic typing skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to analyze and organize unrelated facts, and ability to remain calm in emergency situations. This is a continuous 24 hour/365 day operation; employees work various shifts and are subject to overtime and call back.
Successful candidates must pass an examination, a pre-employment drug screen, and an extensive police background investigation. Selected candidates must furnish a certified copy of their driving record. Dispatchers must work rotating shifts and satisfactorily complete mandatory training programs. High school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and two years of experience in public safety field or related discipline required (law enforcement, fire, EMS, 911, or military). Excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency in the use of maps and nautical charts are required. Certifications required or must be obtained during 12 month probationary period: National and Maryland certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Emergency Fire Dispatcher, Emergency Police Dispatcher, National certification as an Emergency Telecommunicator, CPR, IS-100, IS-700, EVOC, Hazmat Operations, Confined Space Awareness, Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness.

Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher;
CPR certification;
At least 1 year previous dispatch experience.
oA candidate will receive 8 additional points if they have these things:
Certification as an Emergency Medical, Fire, Police Dispatcher;
Certification as an Emergency Telecommunicator;
CPR certification;
At least 1 year previous dispatch experience.
Qualified candidates must be able to attend one of the examination testing sessions. Candidates will be notified if they qualify to take the exam, and where the exam will be held. The exam will be offered on the following dates:
Friday, July 12, 2013 at 8:00 am;
Friday, July 12, 2013 at 1:00 pm;
Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 8:00 am.
Candidates who pass the exam will be offered an opportunity for an oral interview in front of an interview panel. Interviews will be conducted on Monday, July 29th and Tuesday, July 30th at the Department of Emergency Services.

Salary will be at the base of the position: $36,693.
