This is a re-advertisement; previous applicants need not re-apply. Perform technical payroll work and supervise the processing of bi-weekly payroll for Charles County Government, Charles County Sheriff's Office, and associated agencies. Ensure the computing, withholding, or deductions associated with net pay are correct. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual federal and state reports; reconcile payroll-related general ledger account; ensure payroll records are current and complete. Research, compute, and adjust salary and fringe cost allocations; plan and manage departmental workflow; approve all payroll calendars and bi-weekly processing schedules. Approve payroll-related payments to third parties, payroll transfers, and direct deposits. Prepare and remit retirement, life insurance, LTD and WC premiums; compile fiscal year rate adjustments for life insurance and retirement premiums. Must have knowledge of: the principles, concepts, and practices of governmental accounting as applied to general accounting; payroll accounting and payroll processing procedures; computerized payroll systems (New World experience preferred): and federal and state laws and regulations governing payroll and employment. Must have the ability to: ensure and maintain the timely and accurate processing of payrolls; identify and resolve discrepancies in salary and fringe; and direct the work of payroll staff. Requires: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field; 5 ? 6 years progressively responsible payroll experience; and experience in governmental and general accounting. Candidates who do not have a Bachelor's degree must have Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation. Starting salary range:
$64,343 to $83,855, DOQ. Closing date:
