John Wilkes Booth Escape Route, 49 miles (purple route)

Feel like escaping the hustle and bustle?  This ride begins at Cedarville State Forest and travels south on St. Peter's Church Road past the historic church and cemetary.  Take a left onto Poplar Hill Road and trace the footsteps of John Wilkes Booth as he escaped after assassinating President Lincoln.  A right onto Bryantown Road and a right onto Route 5 continues the escape through the Zekiah Swamp area.  A left onto Route 488 will lead you around the swamp to La Plata.  A left onto Route 6 to a left on Olivers Shop Road will bring you past St. Mary's Church, where D. Mudd is buried, and back across Route 5 to Bryantown Road.  If your legs are still good, follow Woodville Road to a left at Iowa Road and a left on Poplar Hill Road back to St. Peter's Church and Cedarville Forest.
