Economic Development Department Hosts PACE Workshop

The Charles County Economic Development Department will host a workshop, Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Financing Opportunities, on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Waldorf West Library (10405 O'Donnell Place Waldorf) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The workshop, led by the Maryland Commercial PACE and PACE Financial Servicing programs, is for anyone interested in learning about financing opportunities for energy improvements to commercial properties.

“Working with PACE gives our Charles County commercial property owners the opportunity to make their buildings more energy efficient, lowering their operating costs and improving value,” said Darréll A. Brown, director of the Charles County Economic Development Department.

PACE financing provides 100 percent up-front capital to commercial property owners to implement building upgrades that save energy and lower operating costs. Improvements are repaid through a long-term surcharge on the property tax bill that transfers with sale of the property.

The Charles County Commissioners passed local PACE legislation last year to make the program available to county commercial property owners. Charles County is the only southern Maryland jurisdiction to participate, so far. The county has entered into an agreement with PACE financial servicing to manage the program locally.

Gerard Neely, manager of Maryland Commercial PACE and PACE Financial Servicing programs, will give three presentations, each tailored to business owners, bankers, and contractors.

The agenda:
8 a.m.            Breakfast and networking
8:30 a.m.       Presentation to property owners
10 a.m.          Presentation to bankers and lenders
11:30 a.m.     Presentation to building contractors
1p.m.             Adjourn

Registration is free, and food will be served during all sessions. Please reserve your spot at https://paceincharles.eventbrite.com. For more information, contact Claudia Bellony-Atanga at BellonyC@MeetCharlesCounty.com or 301-885-1347.
