EMS Team to Aid Hurricane Relief Efforts in US Virgin Islands

At the request of the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), the Charles County Department of Emergency Services is making preparations to deploy half of an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Strike Team to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to support the medical relief mission. The U.S. Virgin Islands were impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and are currently in desperate need of medical assistance.

Seven county emergency medical services workers and an EMS all-terrain vehicle will be deployed and provide assistance to the overburdened and heavily impacted EMS of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The other portion of the strike team will be provided by Prince George’s County, Harford County, and Baltimore City with MIEMSS providing logistical support. The team will be deployed for two weeks. Charles County will not experience any negative emergency service impact as a result of this deployment. One EMS all-terrain vehicle will remain in the county ready for service as needed.
