NOTICE TO PUBLIC  OF

APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CHARLES COUNTY, MARYLAND

On May 31, 2017, The Charles County Department of Community Services submitted an application for $800,000 to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development on behalf of a local non-profit to obtain funding for the acquisition of a former motel in Newburg to be utilized as housing for homeless individuals and families in Charles County.  If approved, Maryland Community Development Block Grant funds will be used for the project, Southern Crossing.

The maximum amount of money for which Charles County may apply is $800,000 per State fiscal year. The funds may be used for a wide variety of community development and housing activities. Eligible activities under the Community Development Block Grant include, but are not limited to, any of the following projects: acquisition of real property; acquisition, construction, reconstruction, or installation of public facilities; clearance, demolition, removal and rehabilitation of buildings; architectural barrier removal; relocation payments for displaced individuals; and direct assistance to facilitate and expand homeownership among eligible low and moderate income persons.

Community Development Block Grant funds cannot be used for projects involving: political activities; buildings for the general conduct of government; equipment purchase; furnishings; and operation, maintenance or repair of public facilities and works.

The application may be reviewed at the Department of Community Services, 8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677 from the date of publication of this notice until July 31, 2017.  The public may provide comments by this date in person at the Department of Community Services or comments may be mailed to 8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677 or emailed to kingp@charlescountymd.gov.  The County Commissioners reserve the right to extend the time frame allotted for the Public notice.         Charles County Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
