Charles County, Maryland

Bryans Road Stormwater Retrofit Project

Bryans Road Stormwater Retrofit Project

The primary objective for this project is to install stormwater retrofits to improve water quality within the community in accordance with the County’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Stormwater System Permit which requires treatment of 10% of the untreated impervious surfaces within the County's Development District.  The Mattawoman Creek watershed has been identified by the Maryland Clean Water Action Plan as a priority for restoration and protection. The improvements include an underground detention pond, associated stormwater piping, and inlets that will treat 9.7 acres of untreated impervious surface run off in the watershed. In addition, a park will be constructed above the underground detention pond. The park is intended to serve as a Town Green, a community amenity and focal point for the Bryans Road Town Center. The Town Center is a zoned mixed use area that is part of the western development district in Charles County.
