Gilbert Run Park is located 8 miles east of La Plata on Route 6. Within this scenic wooded parkland are hiking and nature trails, picnic areas (grills and tables), picnic pavilions, playground areas, and fishing piers. The main attraction is a 60 acre fresh water lake which affords fishing, pedal boating, row boating and canoeing. Fishermen are able to catch bass, bluegill, trout and catfish. A boat ramp is also provided for your convenience (electric motors only).

After the 3rd Weekend of Nov – Feb: Park closed for vehicle access past the main gate, however, the Brookside Pavilion parking lot will remain open to park patrons during the park off-season (After 3rd weekend in November through end of March).

Play – enjoy our large playground which overlooks the park’s main attraction, Wheatley Lake, and has activities for children of all ages. The park also has a sanded volleyball court.
Hike – take a scenic, self-guided hike on the 2-mile wooded trail that wraps around the lake. The trail features a newly constructed boardwalk and is perfect for those of all hiking levels including children and is also dog friendly.
Fish – various piers throughout the park are perfect for fishing in the 60-acre freshwater lake which is home to bass, bluegill, trout, and catfish. A freshwater fishing license (not available for purchase at the park) is required for those 16 and older. A trout stamp is required to keep any trout (5 per day limit). Fishing supplies are available for purchase at the park's concessions.
Boat – a boat ramp is provided for those with their own vessels (electric motors only) and provides easy access to the lake. Boats can also be rented at the park, such as pedal boating, row boating, canoeing, and kayaking.

Relax – picnic tables can be found throughout the park for you and your family to relax at, along with grills for your use.
Celebrate – spend time with friends, family, and/or co-workers in one of our many pavilions available for rental. Pavilions come in large to small sizes to accommodate any size party with grills and plenty of tabletop space and seating. Learn – on weekdays all of Gilbert Run's facilities are available to school groups through a reservation system. Groups must contact the parks office a minimum of two weeks in advance to secure a permit. Weekday school groups will be charged a reservation fee for the use of facilities.
