Charles County is officially charting a course toward a greener future with our Climate Action Plan (CAP)! Managed by the Planning Division in the Department of Planning and Growth Management, this bold roadmap focuses on two main goals: slashing greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience to climate hazards such as flooding and extreme heat. By considering actions for Government Operations and the broader Community, we’re ensuring the County leads by example while giving residents and businesses the tools they need to adapt.

The Resilience Authority, a non-profit organization and governmental instrumentality, is working hard to respond to the impacts of climate change in communities across Charles County and the State. To date they have secured more than $5 million in state and federal grants for projects that focus on nature-based solutions. Projects such as the living shoreline at Popes Creek and new "tree equity" plantings at nine local public schools are being built without a dime of local taxpayer money! It’s all part of the county’s commitment to community well-being while helping to achieve Maryland’s ambitious climate goals.
