Every single week, the dedicated members of the Charles County Litter Control team are out on our roads cleaning up carelessly discarded trash. It is a massive, non-stop operation, and every single month, their hard work adds up to many tons of litter kept out of our beautiful local environment.

To give you an idea of the incredible grit and effort these crews put in daily, look no further than their amazing work on April 13th: Our crew took to Woodville Road to clear a heavily littered stretch of the roadway. Walking along the shoulders, their fast teamwork over just a short distance yielded an unbelievable haul:

 April 13th - The Woodville Road Clean Sweep

• Distance Covered: 2.2 miles of roadway
• Haul Collected: 5 large bags of trash + scattered car parts
• Total Weight: 220 pounds of debris safely removed!

 Think about that—more than 200 pounds of trash lifted, bagged, and hauled away across just two miles of pavement. That is the kind of dedication our teams bring to the job every single day to ensure Charles County remains a clean, welcoming place for all of us.

 How You Can Support Our Hardworking Crews

 Our Litter Control teams work our roads on cold and hot days, and near moving traffic to protect our local ecosystem. Here is how we can all step up as supportive neighbors and help make their jobs a little easier:

•  Secure Your Travel Loads: A surprising amount of roadside litter is completely accidental. If you are hauling items or trash in an open truck bed, always secure your load with a tight tarp or tie-downs so nothing escapes onto the roadway.
• Give Them Space (and a wave!): If you see our crews working hard on a roadside shoulder, please slow down, safely move over to give them a wide buffer zone, and flash a friendly wave. A little community appreciation goes a long way to brighten their day!
• Report Trouble Spots: See a road that needs some serious attention? Skip the frustration and report it directly to us! Use the Charles County Recycles app or hop onto our online Report Littering portal to flag high-litter zones so our crews can get them on the schedule.
