The task of the Board of Electrical Examiners and Supervisors is to examine the qualifications and capabilities of all persons who are seeking to obtain a Charles County Master or Journeyman electrical license. The Board consist of five members who serve a four year term. The Chairman is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners on an annual basis after receiving a recommendation from the Board of Electrical Examiners and Supervisors.

Electrical Licensing Exam Information

The Board of Electrical Examiners and Supervisor of Charles County offers exams for Master Licenses, Restricted Master Licenses, and Journeyman Licenses. Upon approval and successful completion of the exam a license will be issued for two-year term. Questions for all exams are based on the 2017 National Electric Code (NEC). Exam applicants may use the NEC book during the exam. Exam applicants must provide their own book as they will not be provided by the Board.

Calendar Year 2020 Exam Dates and Application Deadlines:

Exam Date:  March 18, 2020           Application Deadline:  February 17, 2020
Exam Date: September 16, 2020     Application Deadline:  August 17, 2020

Application/Exam Fees:
Application/exam fees are nonrefundable and are due at the time of application submission. 

Master, Inactive Master, and Restricted Master Licenses: $157.04 
Journeyman License:  $106.08

Minimum Qualifying Experience Requirements 
Master Electrician- Must be at least 21 years of age and has been regularly and principally engaged in electrical work under the direction and supervision of a Master or similarly qualified government electrician for 14,000 hours or more.

Restricted Master- Must be at least 21 years of age and has been regularly and principally engaged in restricted type (s) of electrical work for at least 4,000 hours under the direction and supervision of a Master, Restricted Master, or similarly qualified government electrician.

Journeyman- Must be at least 21 years of age and show 8,000 hours of experience in the trade under the supervision of a Master Electrician.
