Call to Order:

The Meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. by Emily Ferren, Chair.

  • In attendance: Jim Howard, Emily Ferren, Joane Gulvas, Amy Blandford, Sandra Dent, Tonya-Kay Speers, Keri Williams
  • Excused: Robin Lincoln, Nicky Pires

The meeting minutes for the March meeting will be reviewed at the May meeting.

The remaining dates for year 2015 CIWD meetings were presented as follows:

May 18th, June 15th, July 20th, August 17th, Septemer 21st, October 19th, November 16th, and December 21st.

Emily Ferren will attend the statewide meeting of all the County Commissions for Individuals with Disabilities on Monday, May 11th to represent Charles County. For follow up at the Transportation Form on May 11th, Nicky Pires, Tonya-Kay Speers, Amy Blandford, and Sandra Dent will attend from the Commission.

On May 4th, the new County Administrator, Mr. Michael Mallinoff will begin at Charles County Government. He is from Annapolis.

CPR Training

Joane Gulvas, Safety Officer gave a training/demonstration of Hands Only CPR and had those in attendance try the procedure with a CPR maniken. Joane also gave a demonstration of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). She responded to questions from the group.

Agency Updates

Joane Gulvas has sent in the forms to schedule a session with the Commissioners to give an overview of the Charles County Commission on Individuals with Disabilities.

Amy Blandford, DORS, told us about the Employer Awards Breakfast held on April 8th from 8 - 11 a.m. at Martini's. A press release was issued. Amy, Emily, and Robin attended the event.

Sandra Dent, Southern Maryland Center for Independent Living, announced the 25th anniversary celebration of the ADA on September 18th at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Please note this is a change in date from August 27th, so students in St. Mary's could participate din the event.

The Charles County Commission celebration will be at our July 20th meeting.

Copies of Charles County Directory of Human Services, 2015 Edition, produced by the United Way of Charles County now lists the Commisison on page 10.

Next meeting will be held on May 18th, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Charles County Government Buildig, Office of the Safety Officer. We will have guest presenters from People on the Go and Pathways.
