Meeting Minutes: June 15, 2015

Call to Order:

- Guests: Ruth Davis (Tri-County Council), Makeba Clay (Diversity Institute, CSM)
- Excused: Jim Howard, Sandra Dent, Amy Blandford, Tonya-Kay Speers, Robin Lincoln
The meeting minutes for the May meeting were not approved as we did not have a quorum present.
The remaining dates for year 2015 CIWD meetings were presented as follows:
July 20th, August 17th, September 21st, October 19th, November 16th and December 21st.
Our guest speaker was Ruthy Davis from Southern Maryland Job Source of the Tri-County Council. The Southern Maryland Job Source is providing workforce solutions is Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties. She gave us an overview of the mission, vision, and strategic direction of Job Source. Ruthy answered questions and gave us an update on how the laws will be implemented on July 1, 2015 that was padded by Congress in July 2014. Through the U.S. Department of Labor, emphasis will be placed on services for individuals with disabilities, youth to age 24, and apprenticeships. There is also a Mobile Career Center and the schedule will be posted at our information booth on July 20th. DORS is a mandatory partner for Southern Maryland Job Source. The project focuses on 8 key industries as part of the Labor Market Information and Stretgic Industry Partnerships.
Makeba Clay from the Diversity Institute will help us publicize our July 20th Information Booth at the County Government Building on their website. She met the members of the Commission at today's meeting.
Joane Gulvas and Emily Ferren gave an Annual Report of the Commission on June 2nd to the Commissioners and one of the suggestions was to involve other agencies in publicizing our mission and the Diversity Institute in particular.
July Meeting, ADA Celebration, Information Booth, Monday, July 20th, 2 - 4 p.m., Lobby of the County Government Building.
Save the date and bring information to share from your agency. The Information Booth will take the place of our regular meeting.
The National Gallery of Art sent information to disseminate regarding programs for low vision and also programs in ASL.
The website will be named Disability Resources in Charles County.com. It is through GoDaddy and will be updated by Tonya-Kay Speers. Send information that you would like posted to TK Speer at Navigations@outlook .com
The next meeting will be our Information Booth on Monday, July 20th from 2-4 p.m. in the lobby of the Charles County Government Building to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The election of officers for the next fiscal year will be held at that time.
