We requested 1000 brochures to be printed. It will come from the County’s ADA budget. There was a request from the Commissioners to report public buildings that are not in ADA compliance.
The updated brochure was handed out for any corrections before we go to print.
The brochure needs to be formatted as a word document for printing.
Nineteen students graduated from the Adult Independence Center.
The Adult Independence Center is a centralized community-based hub for a model vocational training program, serving students who have completed the requirements for a state certificate, but continue to require assistance transitioning into adult life. Instruction occurs in the community, where students experience adult life first hand, acquiring environmentally specific skills that support personal goals for employment, travel and community participation. They gain skills and confidence, and are fully engaged in adult life upon exit from the program. Their first day as an independent adult is no different than their last day as a public school student.
Abilities Network has a summer program from July 8-August 16. It is a paid work experience and includes workers with disabilities. Contact Robin Lincoln or Serena Norman. Serena’s number is 240-346-8363. Abilities Network’s employment services cultivate partnerships with employers to support inclusion within the work place and independence for individuals with disabilities within competitive employment through customized services. The Community and Employment Partners program provides services designed to support adults with developmental disabilities to live and work as independently as possible in their communities. Abilities Network is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that assists people with disabilities to achieve their personal goals and reach their maximum potential. Abilities Network helps to create a personal path to independence by seeing abilities, not disabilities.
The school system, DORS, and Pax River have a partnership with Disability Mentoring Day. They have sponsored an internship in past years. This summer the program was suspended, after the intern was selected.
Tutoring rooms are being used at Waldorf West library to teach Braille.
The ARC in Calvert will have their annual fundraiser on May 23rd.
