Area Council on Aging

Clark Senior Center
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 9:34am. In attendance were Kenny Gordon, Lisa Furlow, Roy Naraine, Betsy Kessler, Kumiah Harrison and Rachelle Andrews-Mobley. Special guest County Commissioner Tomasina Coates, District 2.
Approval of the Minutes: The minutes from May 9, 2019 were approved.
Communications Received: None
County Commissioner’s Report: Tomasina Coates, District 2. Charles County Dental services is looking for ways to market their services – Dr. Lawry is available for patients. The commissioners are looking for bigger facilities for the Indian Head center and would like to keep it in the Bryans Road area. Affordable housing is a priority for this term for all the Commissioners.
Area Agency on Aging Report: Lisa Furlow. October 24th is the 30th year celebration of the Clark center. Activities begin at 9am in the center. All ACA members are welcome to attend. The tour of the Waldorf center went well. Thank you to all ACA members who could attend. Ribbon cutting for the Waldorf center is October 8th. Senior programing will be available right away, Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. The senior centers have a Facebook page, “Charles County Senior Centers” is one of the pages. VanGo will go to the new center and they are currently working out routes for all the existing customers.
A discussion was held and the member decided to continue to rotate our ACA meetings to the Senior centers. The new schedule with center locations will be emailed to the council members.
Community Resources Day will be held at the Jaycees on October 2nd, 10am -2pm.
President Kenny Gordon would like our input into the ACA goals via email by September 19, 2019.
