Court Date Scheduling
The Assignment Office schedules court hearings for judges and magistrates.
Have your case number ready when you contact us.
Check if Your Hearing Is Remote or In Person
If you are not sure how your hearing will happen, contact the court:
- Family magistrate hearings: 301-932-3279
- Judge hearings: 301-932-3201
Remote hearings:
If your hearing is remote, the court will email you a Zoom link the business day before your hearing.
Reserve Courtroom Equipment
To request equipment (like screens or audio), submit a request before your hearing:
Courtroom and Judge Assignments
The courtroom or judge may change on the day of your hearing.
Check the docket monitors on the first floor to confirm your assignment.
Request a Postponement
If you need to change your court date, follow these steps:
How to Request a Postponement
- All postponement requests must be filed with the Clerk's Office
What Happens Next
- The Assignment Office cannot approve or hold (clear) new dates before the court decides on your request
- The court must first rule on your motion to postpone
- File your request with the Clerk's Office
- If the judge approves it, the Assignment Office will schedule a new date
If Your Request Is Approved
The Assignment Office will:
- Work with attorneys to schedule a new date (if attorneys are involved)
- Set a new hearing date
The court will send a new hearing notice to:
- You, if you do not have an attorney, or
- Your attorney, if you are represented
Court Closures (Weather or Emergencies)
For All Cases (Except Domestic Violence)
If the court closes:
- Your hearing will be automatically rescheduled
- You should receive a notice within 2 weeks
If you do not receive a notice, contact the Assignment Office: 301-932-3212
For Domestic Violence Cases (Important)
If the court closes unexpectedly:
- Follow the instructions in your temporary domestic violence order, if it includes a new court date or time
If your order does not include a new date or time:
- Your case will be automatically rescheduled
- Your new hearing will be:
- 9:00 a.m.
- On the third business day after the court reopens
- The court will not send a new notice for this rescheduled hearing
You must attend on the correct date and time listed in your order or based on this schedule.

If you have not received your hearing notice:
- The court sends notices directly to your attorney

What to Bring to Court
The Assignment Office cannot tell you what to bring.
