The Family Recovery Court supports strong and healthy families by providing timely, intensive treatment and services to parents with substance use disorders.

The program helps parents:

• Provide safe and appropriate care for their children
• Strengthen family stability
• Word toward reunification when appropriate

The program uses a team-based approach that includes:

• Ongoing monitoring
• Intensive treatment
• Referrals to additional services
• Collaboration among court and service providers

The program is voluntary. 

To be considered for the Family Recovery Court, participants must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Have a substance use disorder diagnosis
• Meet at least one of the following conditions:
  • Have an active Child In Need of Assistance (CINA) case with a plan for reunification
  • Be under a Department of Social Services (DSS) order of protection or supervision
  • Have a custody or visitation case that requires substance use treatment
• Be willing to participate in substance use treatment
• Sign an agreement to participate in the program

Anyone can make a referral to the Family Recovery Court. To make a referral, download and complete the Charles County Family Recovery Court Program referral form.

To successfully complete program, participants must take part in several activities that support recovery and family stability.

Participants are required to:

• Engage in substance use treatment
• Attend regular court sessions
• Complete random drug testing
• Take part in support groups or other recover activities (if recommended)
• Work, attend school, or participate in job training
• Earn a high school diploma or GED (if needed)
