DCS operational status has been updated and will remain as follows until further notice, but may be re-assessed as needed, to assure safe operations.

  • Essential services are provided throughout the Department, with limited teleworking.   A secure drop-box for required paperwork is available at the Port Tobacco location.
  • To assure smooth operations, resident services are provided by scheduled appointment only at Port Tobacco and at all other DCS service locations.  Please call directly to the employee with whom you need to meet, or the main Department at 301-934-9305 to schedule an appointment.
  • The school-based Before & After Childcare sites will continue to follow the operating status of CCPS. The Port Tobacco onsite Childcare Center will follow the operations of Charles County Government, unless otherwise noted. Call AlphaBEST for questions about operational changes, if necessary, at 301-535-3446.

Meals on Wheels, Senior Center and Nanjemoy Community Center

Senior Centers & the Nanjemoy Community Center follow weather-related school closings but not school delays. If schools are CLOSED for weather, the Senior Centers are closed to participants & daily activities are canceled.  If schools are opening with a delay, please check the operating status of Centers directly.

Meals on Wheels deliveries are made once per week, on Mondays.  When inclement weather is predicted every effort will be made to arrange for an alternate delivery date.  However, meal recipients are encouraged to maintain at least a 3-day supply self-stable-foods and other personal essentials to meet their needs until regular service delivery can resume.
