**For any public information request submitted to the Charles County Government under the Maryland Public Information Act, please be advised that because of the current state of emergency as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to the Maryland Annotated Code, General Provisions Article, section 4-203(b)(2), the County will not be responding to public information requests within 10 days. Requests will be fulfilled as quickly as practicable, however, given the social distancing mandates and the current in-person staffing reductions, the County will not be capable of responding within the statutory time provisions. Once the State of Emergency is lifted, the County will begin processing requests as quickly as possible in the order that they were received.
Maryland's Public Information Act ("PIA"), General Provisions Article Title 4 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, grants the people of the State a right of access to public records while protecting legitimate governmental interests and the privacy rights of individual citizens. It has been a part of the Annotated Code of Maryland since 1970 and is similar in purpose to the federal Freedom of Information Act.
It is important that you specifically describe the precise records you seek so that the County can research the request. Please be sure to provide all necessary contact information as further discussions may be necessary to clarify your request.
To avoid delay in processing, be sure to select the appropriate Charles County Government Department/Office from the drop-down selection list below.
