V-FIRE Project Information
The Charles County Department of Public Works, Utilities Division, in conjunction with Wachs Water Services, is conducting a water main gate valve inspection program titled, “Valve-Find, Inspect, Repair, & Exercise” (V-FIRE) for the Waldorf Water Distribution System. The goal of the V-FIRE program is to inspect, actuate, and verify that all valves are operational with a goal of increasing system reliability. Work will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday by a dedicated field crew of at least two (2) team members. All team members will have County identification.

If inspections are occurring in your area, you may experience momentary drop in water pressure and/or momentary disruption in water service. You may also experience brown water. Please refrain from washing laundry and using excess water during this time. If you do experience brown water please turn on the faucets in the house for several minutes until the water becomes clear. We recommend running the washing machine empty for one cycle before washing clothes.
In addition, many of the water main valves are located in the street or on the shoulder of the street. Please be aware of and approach marked work area with caution for your safety and our field crew’s. Any disruption in traffic should be temporary.
If you have questions or experience a water outage for more than 10 minutes, you may contact Mr. Steve Strobel, Line Maintenance Superintendent, at 301-609-7400.
Please be advised: the field crew has no reason or authorization to enter a private home. Should anyone approach you and request access, they should be denied access and the contact provided above be notified immediately.

February 13, 2017 - The contractor will continue to exercise water main valves along Marshall Hall Road, Livingston Road and the community of Montrose Farms.
February 6, 2017 - The contractor will continue to exercise water main valves in the Bryan's Road area, west of Route 210.
January 30, 2017 - The contractor will continue working along Marshall Hall Road as well as in the Myer's Estate community.
January 23, 2017 - For the coming week the contractor will be working in the Strawberry Hills neighborhood as well as along Marshall Hall Road.
January 19, 2017 - Field services for the Charles County V-FIRE project is now being performed by Wachs Water Services. New schedules will be posted as the new project team gets settled in.
September 22, 2016 - For the upcoming week the team will continue “cleanup” work revisiting valves that were skipped for various reasons on the first pass.
August 26, 2016 - For the upcoming week the team will continue “cleanup” work (revisiting valves that were skipped for various reasons on the first pass) in neighborhoods along MD Rt. 228 and 229.

August 10, 2016 - For the upcoming week the team will continue “cleanup” work revisiting valves that were skipped for various reasons on the first pass along Smallwood Drive.
July 1, 2016 - For the upcoming week the Team will working on Post Office Road and all schools in the system. The team will not be working July 1st and July 4th. Work will resume on July 5th with a four person team.
June 16, 2016 - For the coming week the contractor will be working on side streets and shops along US301 and Old Washington Road south of Route 5 as well as side streets and shops along Route 5 business (Leonardtown Road). Additionally, the crews will be on Smallwood drive, and St Charles Parkway.
June 1, 2016 - For this week, the contractor's work plan is the same as last week. They are currently on Industrial Park Drive and will be there for the next two weeks.
May 25, 2016 - For the coming week the contractor will add Piney Church Road, Sheffield Circle and Industrial Park Drive. Please note that Monday, 5/30, is Memorial Day and the contractor will not be working.
April 20, 2016 - The contractor is adding St. Patrick's Drive, Chesterbrooke Ct. and Acton Lane (eastern side) to the areas previously listed (Bunker Hill Road, St Stevens Drive, and Smallwood Drive West). They currently have 2 Teams in field. If additional traffic control is needed, the Teams will work together. Otherwise, they will work separately to increase production.
March 31, 2016 - For next week the contractor will add Bunker Hill Road, St Stevens Drive, and Smallwood Drive West. They currently have 2 Teams in field. The Teams will be working together if more traffic control is needed or separately to increase production. Some of the new areas listed are on more heavily trafficked County roads. The Teams will likely be working together to increase production and improve safety. The valves they will be inspecting are on the shoulder of the road. Valves that are in a travel lane in these areas will require more thorough traffic control. The contractor will begin to plan this work and coordinate with a traffic control subconsultant.
February 10, 2016 - For the next two weeks the team will be adding St. Florian Drive, Madelyn Ct, Theodore Green Blvd, and West Lake Village (shopping Center). The Team is quickly wrapping things up on the Western Side of the of 301.
December 23, 2015 - Work will continue in areas indicated previously including Kings View neighborhood, High Grove neighborhood, Forest Glen Rd, Mattawoman Dr. (Western side and just parking lots), Firestone St, Rock Spray Ct, Vernon Rd, O’Donnell Pl, St. Charles Town Center, and St. Charles Plaza. The Team will add Charles Town Plaza, BJ’s Parking Lot, and Westchester at The Pavilion.
December 2, 2015 - For the next 2 weeks work will continue in areas indicated from the previous update (Kings View neighborhood, High Grove neighborhood, Silent Creek, Holly Station/Holly Tree, Fox Hall Pl, Forest Glen Rd, Mattawoman Dr. (Western side and just parking lots), Sam’s Club and Home Depot Parking Lots, Weymouth Ct, Millbrook Ct, Firestone St, Rock Spray Ct, Ray Rd, Vernon Rd, and O’Donnell Pl). In addition, add St. Charles Town Center, St. Charles Plaza, and the Shops at Waldorf Center.
October 29, 2015 - The V-FIRE Team plan for the next 2 weeks, ending on or about November 13, 2015, is as follows: Kings View neighborhood, High Grove neighborhood, Elsa Ave, Silent Creek, Holly Station/Holly Tree, The woods of Deer Creek, Fox Hall Pl, Forest Glen Rd, Stanford Ct, Deer Woods Ct, Mattawoman Dr. (Western side and just parking lots), St. Anthony Ct, Sam’s Club and Home Depot Parking Lots.
October 22, 2015 - Over the next week to 10 days, the contractor will be working in the following areas: Kings View neighborhood, High Grove neighborhood, Elsa Ave, Silent Creek, Kingston woods, Holly Station/Holly Tree, The woods of Deer Creek, Alton Village, Coventry Manor, Fox Hall Pl, Forest Glen Rd and Stanford Ct
October 6, 2015 - To date, the contractor has completed 4,941 inspections. This is an average of 22.8 valves per day. They continue to work with one Team in the field at 2-days per week.
September 23, 2015 - The V-FIRE Team will work in the neighborhoods of Chestnut Drive, Marshawk Drive, Lexington Drive, Portebello Ct (Friday/backup), and Leighland Ct (Friday/backup). Once they are complete they will move into Laurel Branch Drive and the associated side streets. For the Friday/backup neighborhood they will use Scenic Meadow St. and Silent Creek Rd.
March 30, 2015 - The plan for this week is to wrap up Northwoods and then move to Springhaven. The backup neighborhoods should stay the same (Cedarbrook, Hamilton Estates, and Ballantrae).
March 18, 2015 - The plan for upcoming week is to go to Northwood, Timberhook Drive area, and Shawnee Lane area. For Friday/backup they will use Cedarbrook, Hamilton Estates, and Ballantrae. The Team will also stop by Wexford Village and inspect some of the valves the Contractor has replaced.
February 24, 2015 - The team will be finishing White Oak, then move to Progress Drive, and Keystone Drive along Substation Road. Then they will move to Indian Lane which is off of Rt 5. From there they are going to move south and start St. Paul’s Drive and then Duley Drive. Their backup/Friday neighborhood is St. Owens Court.
February 11, 2015 - The team will continue in White Oak until it is complete. For their backup/Friday they will be back in Brentwood to finish up what is left there. From there they will move onto St. Francis Dr. (Town homes behind Sheffield).
January 21, 2015 - The Team is still in the Pinefield subdivision. From there they will move into White Oak (across the street from Pinefield). For their backup/Friday they will be back in Brentwood to finish up what is left there. From there they will move onto St. Francis Dr (Town homes behind Sheffield).
February 5, 2015 - The Team has completed the Pinefield subdivision as of February 4, 2015. They will be moving into White Oak starting Thursday, February 5, 2015. For their backup/Friday they will be back in Brentwood to finish up what is left there. From there they will move onto St. Francis Dr (Town homes behind Sheffield).
January 14, 2015 - The Team is still in Pinefield and should be there for several more weeks. Backup neighborhoods will be Friendship, Heritage Crossing, Bracey Estates, and Brentwood.
The Team has finished Constitution Hills and will be moving into Sun Valley and Christopher Point (Christopher Point is inside of Sun Valley). These neighborhoods are on Sun Valley Drive and Stavors Road. For backups they will use Berry Hills, then onto Charles Manor followed by Bracey Estates. After that they should be moving to Friendship followed by Heritage Crossing.
Work will resume on Monday December 1, 2014. The Team has finished Dorchester (click for map) and have moved into Lancaster (map). The team will remain in Lancaster for the next week or so. After that they will move to Constitution Hills (map). For a backup neighborhood they will use North Pointe (map) and Granite Court (map).
Week of November 10 - Work will continue in the Dorchester area (click here for map) for about another week. From there they will move into to the Lancaster area (map). For a backup/Friday neighborhoods they have some valves left in Avalon West (map) and then will move into North Pointe (map) (across the street from Avalon West). They should be in North Pointe for a few weeks given its size.
Week of November 3 - The team will be working in two townhome developments off of St. Charles Parkway, Northgate (click to view map) and Gateway (map). Afterwards they will move into Dorchester (map) on Dorchester Circle. (Click on names for area maps.) The backup areas will be a few remaining valves in Avalon and then Windsor Mill. After that they will move into Avalon West (map).
Week of September 8 - The Team continues to work in the Carrington area. They should be there for the next 2 weeks. Completed
Week of July 14 - Work will be conducted at Hallmark Lane (Covington) off of the McDaniel Road entrance; and Sedgewick Drive (Charles Crossing). Completed
Week of June 23 - Work will continue in the Wakefield Circle area. Completed
June 18, 2014 - Work is being conducted in the Wakefield Circle area off St. Marks Drive. Completed
