Wasted food prevention starts at home but the effects are endless. This page is a resource to waste prevention tips that can be implemented in your every day life to live a more sustainable life. 

Shopping Tips

1. Making a list based on what you have in your fridge already. 

2. Buy in bulk only if you can use it before it spoils. 

3. Choose imperfect fruits and veggies. 

4. Shopping based on a meal plan to reduce overbuying. 

Storage

1. Follow the first in and first out rule. 

2. Repurpose your leftovers into new meals. 

3. Understand expiration dates. 

Sell by: a label on food products that indicates how long a store should display them for sale

Use by: the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality

Best by: the date indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality.  It is not a purchase or safety date

4. Using airtight containers like Tupperware to preserve food longer 

Advocate

1. Create a composting bin in your yard or kitchen. 

2. Donate excess food to community fridges and food banks. 

3. Raise awareness by sharing tips.
