The Charles County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan 2022-2031 was adopted by the Charles County Commissioners on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. The Maryland Department of Environment approved the plan on April 6, 2022.

Resolution #2022-11 to amend the SWMP was adopted by the Commissioners on July 12, 2022 and approved by MDE on August 29, 2022. The amendment adds a statement to section 5.3.2 Waldorf Recovery Facility.


Public Hearing – Proposed Amendment to Charles County Solid Waste Management Plan

The Charles County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The hearing will be held in a hybrid format: in person at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland, and virtually

The hearing will cover a proposed Amendment to the 2022–2031 Charles County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). Updates include adding a glossary and outlining an amendment application process before items are added to the Plan of Action.

The SWMP addresses solid waste management, including generation, reduction, collection, transportation, processing, and disposal.

Public participation: Individuals and group representatives are encouraged to provide oral or written comments during the hearing. A public hearing e-comment page will also be available beginning September 12 at 8:00 a.m. and will remain open until September 30 at 5:00 p.m:
